"Inside Armand Croisonnier’s Little Box"

It all started with a broken heart, Armand Croisonnier’s to be exact, who discovered the scanner the day he broke up with a girlfriend. With this object, Armand felt as though he’d managed to capture a piece of that connection, that he’d put it in his “little box for storing things,” as he calls it. “I left my ex-girlfriend’s place to go pick up a scanner for some project or another, and I never saw that girl again,” he says. “So I saw it as a kind of sign.

I told myself that this machine would be the promise, the rejection, the antidote to losing people in my life. It’ll be my remedy." He fills his scanner with all sorts of little pieces of people and details. Into this machine, he can fit them in whole, and never lose them again. For 3 rue des Rosiers, he asked friends he loves, and who love each other, to step into his little box. “I wanted to squeeze them, compress them, as if love were about to spill out of the image.”
